My therapist often reminds me to look back and imagine what my past self would say about my current situation. She then leads me to talk to those little parts of myself that need reminding that I’m all grown up now and we don’t have to think/worry/feel that way anymore. As we took this picture at Menucha Ukulele Camp last week, I mentally tucked it away to show that little guy where we have ended up.

First, the setting: This is a music camp that takes place in a temperate rainforest in the Cascade mountains. We are surrounded by trees and play music all day long. I started my education life as a camp counselor before turning to music education, so this all makes sense. I even convinced this camp full of adults that we should put our ukes down and do a service project to help maintain the camp, providing 40-50 volunteer hours to this non profit. Even after all these years, I am still basically a camp director, making sure the staff is happy and the campers are getting a good experience. (Just don’t complain to me about the food, it’s always out of my control.)
